The Complete Guide to Trenchless Polyurea Pipe Rehabilitation

PART 4. HIGHCOATIC Technology and Patents

4.1 Unmanned Remote Coating Robot — 360 Ringtech, spincast

📌 Definition

360 Ringtech and spincast are installation equipment developed in-house by HIGHCOATIC. They are not NUKOTE's equipment, but robots directly developed by HIGHCOATIC to remotely and unmanned spray NUKOTE polyurea.

Using these robots, internal pipe lining can be performed remotely from outside the pipe, without human entry. Unmanned lining is possible for pipes ranging from small 4-inch diameters to large pipes up to 3 meters in diameter.

📌 Why Remote and Unmanned Installation?

When humans directly enter pipes for installation, worker safety issues arise, and the thickness and quality of coating applied manually can vary from section to section. Remote installation using robots ensures worker safety while creating more uniform lining quality throughout the entire pipe section through a rotational spray method.

4.2 Installation Process

HIGHCOATIC's pipe lining proceeds in four stages, from surface preparation to polyurea application. Based on standard procedures, it takes place over 1 to 3 days, and the duration may vary depending on site conditions.

4 Stages of Installation

StageProcessDetailed Work
01Surface Debris RemovalHigh-pressure waterjet, blasting, rust removal, corrosion removal, pre-work cleaning
02Crack and Leak RepairUse of concrete/metal repair agents, application with brushes, rollers, and joint fillers
03Pre-treatmentRapid moisture barrier with moisture remover, enhanced adhesion with over 10 types of special primers for different substrates
04Polyurea ApplicationSeparate products such as ST, PP300, XT-Plus are applied depending on the type and pressure of the internal conveyed material

Thus, instead of directly spraying polyurea, we follow a sequence of first diagnosing the surface condition, repairing damaged areas, and then applying pre-treatment before coating. Failure to follow this sequence can lead to poor adhesion or premature delamination, regardless of how good the material is.

4.3 Quality Control and Inspection Methods

HIGHCOATIC manages quality for its installation process and results according to the following standards:

  • Thickness Management: The target lining thickness range of 19-51mm is verified for each site.
  • Adhesion Standard: Managed based on concrete adhesion of 3.0 N/mm² or higher.
  • Hardness Standard: Shore D 80 level hardness is verified.
  • Certification-based Quality System: Holds ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification, with the scope of certification being coating solutions for machinery and equipment.

In addition, we possess test certificates from dozens of official institutions, including China's harmful gas emission test, weather resistance test, US Western Fire Center fire resistance test, chemical resistance test, US National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) drinking water material certification, adhesion test, and pressure test, as well as test results based on international ASTM standards. Required test reports can be requested during consultation.

4.4 Trenchless Polyurea Structural Lining Method — Patent No. 10-2922071

📌 Patent Overview

The title of the invention is 'Trenchless Polyurea Structural Lining Method'. The inventor is listed as Taein Lee. It was filed in July 2024, underwent examination, and was registered on January 29, 2026.

This technology involves spraying polyurea material inside existing pipes to form a structural lining without excavating the ground surface. It focuses on minimizing road excavation, thereby reducing traffic control, noise, and construction waste burdens that can arise during traditional excavation-based pipe replacement.

Unlike typical 1-2mm waterproof and anti-corrosion coatings, this patented technology is designed to form a 19-51mm thick lining inside pipes, reinforcing the structural performance of existing pipelines. Applicable pipe sizes range from small 4-inch diameter pipes to large-diameter pipes up to 3 meters.

The polyurea material used for installation cures within approximately 10 seconds, reducing working time compared to conventional methods. Minimizing excavation also helps reduce waste and carbon emissions generated during the construction process.

4.5 Flexible Leak Mold Technology — Emergency Repair of Leakage Points

Flexible Leak Mold is one of HIGHCOATIC's patented technologies, providing a method to hermetically seal leakage points without replacing or welding the pipeline.

📌 Applicable Cases

It is used when leaks occur in pipes requiring high corrosion and acid resistance, such as those in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical industries. It can also be applied in situations where repair is impossible with conventional replacement or welding methods, such as in semiconductor facilities where pipe shapes are diverse and spaces are extremely confined.

The construction method is as follows:

  1. Create a molding suitable for the leakage point using a flexible sheet.
  2. Fasten this molding to the pipe section where the leak has occurred.
  3. Inject a special polyurea with corrosion and acid resistance into the molding.
  4. As the injected polyurea hardens, the leakage point is hermetically sealed.
